The prognosticators are at it again. This time they say that fashion week and car designs are melding to become first cousins. No where is that more apparent than with Mercedes Benz sponsored fashion weeks all over the world (New York, Los Angeles, Berlin). But on further inspection the relationship is becoming more symbiotic when it comes to sponsorships and the fashion industry. One theoretically works hand in hand with the other. In addition to the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz fashion week, there’s Saturn’s sponsorship of Project Runway in the US, Lexus’ fall fashion preview and even designers enter the car world with Giorgio Armani’s 2003 CLK design car (Mercedes-Benz). Autoweek Magazine this month looks at the melding of the two industries and what the future holds. Will we see more designers creating interiors for cars (remember the Nautica Van?), Ford Expedition’s Eddie Bauer edition?
