Karl Lagerfeld, a man who never minces words, has gone on the record to state that anorexia has nothing to do with fashion. In a recent interview with Hong Kong based Prestige magazine, Lagerfeld says matter-of-factly that the problem has more to do with overweight women in Paris and worldwide than “the less than 1%” who suffer from anorexia. While no stranger to the weight controversy, Lagerfeld who himself went from being overweight to svelte is positioning himself now as a champion for the “25% who have a weight problem, or are overweight”. Instead of worrying about a small population of women battling the bulge, Lagerfeld stresses briefly that overweight women are in more need of help than both in terms of health and esteem than 2 or 3 models. The March 2008 issue of Prestige Hong Kong is on newsstands now.
