London Fashion Week Fall 2008 : Spijkers en Spijkers

Over an hour late, the crowd was starting to get a touch agitated, but finally we took our seats (and rather nice goodie bags) and the lateness was forgiven. Spijers en Spijers based the collection on women’s quest for a balance in social power with her male counterpart. Their inspiration was Scarlett O’hara, seduced by the iconic image of a muse that was both strong willed and dynamic. Monochromatic structured dresses where teamed with sky high blood red stiletto heels. Knickerbockers were cleverly used to add sex appeal to outfits, as were heart shaped nipple covers. Quirky, flirty and feminine- masculine elements were added subtly, in the fabric folded tie and bow tie. I overheard someone at Erdem describing it as ‘cheap Miu Miu’ but I disagree. A sexy, feminine and beautiful collection in places, with a message deeply embedded in the fabric.
