Classical music played by a live orchestra struck the tone for Erdem’s AW08 collection. As everyone was seated, I noticed a spotty 14 years old take a seat in the front row, hence pilfering one of the coveted goodie bags from the important fashion journos in the second row. A funnel neck lace dress with giant jewel embellishment and soft rainbow prints of water lilies and butterfly was first to appear. Florals were huge everywhere this season but Erdem has given them an artistic, classic refinement. Like the great paintings of Monet, the colours dreamily wash together, in acid yellows, purples, reds and greens. Full length dresses made from the finest crepe silk, were beautifully delicate and antique. A classic mackintosh on first inspection, was split into two tone on the reverse, ginormous balloon sleeves creating an unique silhouette. A class that was not seen at many shows this season was present in bucketful’s at Erdem, I am going to start saving now!
