New York Fashion Week Fall 2008 : Akiko Ogawa

Akiko Ogawa’s runway collection was noticeably darker than previous seasons from the designer. Normally the collection adds a splash of color here and there, even if sparingly, but this season’s collection worked with a smaller selection. What it lacked in color made up in focus. Ogawa’s collection was singularly focused on a darker brooding mood. It wasn’t sad or melancholy, just intensely focused. This ended up giving the attendees a treat when it came to looking at the actual design and garment fabrics. Whereas other shows had three or four different aspects that were ready to be critiqued, Akiko Ogawa was all about one (possibly two) things. Highlights from the show include an above the knee black dress/coat with white neck attire, a high waisted dress with flowy dark blue accent along the left arm and a green/blue plain mini-skirt. Another solid outing and worthy addition to the fall wardrobe.
