Diane von Furstenberg filed suit against Target last Friday claiming that the retailer is selling a dress very similar if not almost identical to her original creation. The dress in question was first shown during Furstenberg’s Spring 2007 show September 2006. The infringing item that Target is selling is allegedly a variation of the spotted frog print from one of the designer’s dresses. The popular print has going on to handbags, luggages, and other items. Furstenberg’s company stated that “Defendants’ infringing dresses are ‘wrap’ dresses made of materials designed to look like silk jersey, a style consumers and the general public have come to associate with DVF”
Target has since apparently stopped selling the infringing item on it’s website but the dress remains in stores. A Target spokesperson declined comment.
