People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in Europe is calling for a comprehensive ban on exotic skins used during fashion shows. These exotic skins include alligator, snake, crocodile and other skins of endangered animals. PETA Europe argues that the extensive use of these skins in the industry is causing a rapid decline in their populations. This so much the case that many species are endangered as a direct result.
Peta Europe’s director, Poorva Joshipura, advocates using synthetics instead. He tells the Scotsman that, “Beautiful synthetics are plentiful and used by progressive designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Bouwer. It’s easy to choose faux and have a look that kills without killing animals.”
