Dark Angel

September 11, 2007

Is it September already? If I were a kid going back to school, I would be in tears over how fast the summer has gone by, but since I’m not, I look foward to the cozy layers and inviting extras that autumn brings. While I appreciate the beach, sun and sand as much as the next girl, my heart really starts pumping when the weather cools down and out come the opaque tights, stacked heel boots and statement coats we all know and love. This fall, it’s all about accessories. While jewel tones rule when it comes to separates and dresses, the accessories are about the dark side. If you think that’s gloomy, peruse our Essentials for September…they’ll brighten your day in no time.

It’s the perfect city bag, and now in an even more perfect color: plum. The surprisingly neutral shade looks great with black and grey.Miu Miu’s Coffer bag ($1445, net-a-porter.com) is the same lush leather and stunning hardware as it’s always been, but the refreshing color keeps our hearts loving it for another go.

The stunning compliment to a black sweater and jeans or a slinky dress and heels. Kenneth Jay Lane’s Jet & Pearl Cocktail Ring ($100, shopbop.com) sits well without the weight or clunky-factor of most rings of this size. The stark white and jet black embody the ambiance of the season.

The allure and comfort of ballerina flats never seems to fade, and this fall, it’s no different. Giuseppe Zanotti’s rhinestone ballet flat ($650, barneys.com) is the perfect result of a good girl gone bad. The suede round toe flat is ensconced in rhinestones leaving your standard black ballet flat in the dust.

Thomas Wylde, label of all of those who will never let go of their The Cure-phase, does it again with bags and clutches that reveal less of the softer side. The To Die For clutch II ($1495, electricladyland.com) is a deliciously distressed clutch that is perfect for day or night. Just don’t scare the neighbors (actually, who the hell cares).

Patent in large doses can leave some of feeling nauseous, but in small amounts, it’s just what the doctor ordered. Case in point: the black patent skinny belt from Gap ($19.50, gap.com). Cinch it over a chunky cardigan on a lazy Saturday for shopping and over a strapless number in magenta or cobalt that same night out on the town.
