The stage was set and 500 of the most important people in fashion, politics, movie and tv were on hand to celebrate Ralph Lauren’s 40th anniversary in the industry. There were also two shows for press and buyers filled to the gills.
Set in the Central Park conservatory against a backdrop of horse racing themes, the gala was filled to the brim with a whose who in fashion including Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg and Vera Wang (who once worked for Lauren).
Speaking with the Associated press Harold Koda (curator at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) stated:
“Like a Henry James character, he (Lauren) is the last true idealist about America’s imagination of itself”
