The Fall Roundup
Samantha Cabrera
It seems the year has flown by, no? Between giant bags, the patent craze and everyone on the verge of landing themselves in the slammer, the year has gone by at warped speed. Not to fret! There is still a new season ahead (as there always is) with new trends, as well as a few old, making up fall’s must-haves.

Wide leg jeans are the new rage on both sides of the pond. From dark to pale denim and every shade in-between, look for a mid-rise pant with wide, clean lines. The goal is to retain fall’s ladylike demeanor in the most casual and relaxed sense. While wide legs will make their way over to slacks and trousers for work, denim holds onto that irresistible casual look this season in a far more refined way than ever before. Not since the ‘70s has this pant been so popular, and be sure that the trend will find its way to a retailer near you. The trickle down theory is in full effect and the pant can be found at various price points. Dark is the way to go, as to allow the pant to carry into your going out wardrobe, but light denim has been seen on jet setters and tabloid fixtures alike, proving pale washes have their place. Try these bottoms with slim tanks during this transition season, and move into tight turtlenecks once the temperature drops. Any size belt looks great with wide legs. We love a whiskey belt with a black top and rinsed jeans. For the truly daring (and thin), try one of fall’s blouson tops along with wide leg jeans. The extreme use of proportion is thoroughly modern and cool with a stacked heel sandal or boot.

Prepare for color. Whether you choose magenta, royal purple or cobalt, it’s all about brights, especially for going out. When anchored by neutrals like dark grey, slate and black, brights become incredibly wearable and fresh. Gone are the days of shoulder pads and Aqua Net, so this time around, jewel tones are taking center stage with a toned down approach. Shift dresses and silk blouses in these colors are the perfect way to get in on the trend. The adventuresome bunch may want to invest in a suede shoe or bright bag in one of the above colors. Try unexpected mixes like two jewel tone pieces plus black or bright tights worn with a dress. Any way you wear them, jewel tones are always playful and show off your fun side.
Get ready to shine. Realizing that it’s all about glamour this season, metallics and sequins have taken a backseat to no other trend. The new way to wear them? As daywear. Metallic touches in everything from bangles to flats to bags, and sequins layered with grey and white cotton. Try a sequined tank layered over a filmy white one, or a metallic dress topped with a lightweight men’s cardigan for day. All that glitters is easily transformed for night with a change of shoes, so consider these pieces essential and consider them appropriate for most occasions.
