Your bags will be in more stores than ever this fall; are you excited about the new batch of women you may reach out to?
My bags fit a lot of different types of women all around the country and world, it’s exciting to see different women of all ages wearing different styles and different colors of my bags that fit the individual’s personality.
With the growth of stockists, how do you plan to keep up with production? Will it be business as usual or are there major changes that had to be made?
We expanded our company from 2 to 5 people full time employees and are very excited about the growth.
We always felt the bags were our little secret, but now we’re seeing them on the arms of Hollywood’s infamous tabloid set. If we want the Matinee in a certain color are we going to go down the road of the dreaded waitlist?
We have a waitlist for the grey Matinee and the elephant Matinee, we are also expecting that the sage green with taupe suede to be the next hot color, since Lindsay Lohan was spotted wearing it around NYC.
Our favorite thing about your bags is that you can dress them up and dress them down in a snap, even the clutches. How do you achieve this?
I like to have everyday bags, when you are out and about around the city you don’t have time switch from a slouchy hobo to a date clutch. I like bags that will last from day to night, and from season to season.
We’re seeing more and more women add unique accents to their own bags (charms, scarves, and the like). The Rebecca Minkoff chain is a great accent to your (or any) bag in terms of getting a different look from the same bag. Do you ever plan to expand on hardware trinkets that allows us to play dress up with our bags?
As a matter of fact, we are actually designing our own scarf that will be on all our Spring of 2008 bags. In the future we will also be focusing on designing a charm to go with each individual bag, so every bag has a gift with purchase.
A girl can never have enough handbags, but we always tend to reach for black, chocolate and camel, especially when spending our hard-earned dollars. What other colors are neutral enough to wear on a day-to-day basis?
I think that navy is a classic and my sage green color for Fall is a color that can add to any outfit, also all shades of grey. The royal color that was really popular with my Morning After Bag, Clutch, and Tote, is as functional as it is fun. Sometimes girls can add a little splash of color to an outfit without being completely overwhelming.
Your bags fit women on both coasts, which is rare. Are most Minkoff girls the same at heart, just living in different zip codes?
Of course, RM girls, are your girls on the go, they travel and can be found everywhere. Although my line has been called NYC downtown chic, the RM girl gets around, she’s a world traveler.
Summer is almost over. Anything you’re jamming into the mix between now and the arrival of fall?
I’m working on a project with Momberry by Sanrio, where I designed 4 bags that will be debuted at Sanrio’s birthday party this Fall. Also at the end of summer we will throwing a house party at the LG house in Los Angeles.
What starlet of yesteryear would you have loved to see sport one of your bags?
Twiggy
