Sundancing

Theresa Bennett

In anticipation of the Sundance Film Festival I consulted friends on clothing and accessories, packing different variations of heels, dresses, skirts, and leggings to evoke the essence of winter chic. Unfortunately, almost nothing in my suitcase quite fit the vibe of Park City. The key to Sundance style is casual, laid back, and most importantly warm. Watching the parade of celebrities barreling down Main Street followed by strings of paparazzi I noticed it was all about jeans tucked into winter boots, heavy coats, gloves, and of course tying it all together: designer sunglasses.

Hardly reminiscent of the typical red carpets of Hollywood, or the sidewalk runways of New York, Sundance more resembles your local college campus. Traipsing through the snow catching films or collecting swag, there is hardly any need to pack a suitcase when the lounges open their doors to showcase promotional clothing and accessories available at no cost. Fusing the greatest independent filmmakers and free fashion together to create what may quite possibly be the happiest place on earth. The casual, free spirited energy of the festival is apparent not only in the wardrobe, but in the attitudes of the Hollywood elite, forced to leave their vanity at home and brave the below zero temperatures all in the name of artistic integrity. I may have over packed for my trip but I did leave enough room in my suitcase for a pair of lovely (and warm) Earth Boots, The Summit winter boot is trimmed with exposed faux fleece. D-ring eyelets, beefy laces and double stitching make these a stylish winter essential. Also, a Sundance
essential;

The Little Miss Sunshine tee shirt from Junk Food, a fashionable spin on last years Sundance Favorite. Keep an eye out for the new Rocawear line for men, with stylish coats that were a hit at this years festival along with the new American Eagle line Aerie, for casual women swear. These cute terry cloth Bermuda shorts are perfect for casual spring and summer attire. Whether you attend Sundance to catch a few quality indies or score some free swag, don’t forget to pack light, pack warm, and leave your ego at home.
