The term “social responsibility” has come of age in the world of fashion. No longer a curse silently uttered in the backrooms of aspiring designers, it has become the new raison d’etre in many design shops and board rooms. Brands such as Edun and American Apparel, and makeup companies like Revlon and Jane Iredale deliver on a promise of being socially aware while also making a profit. This month we look at socially aware brands in fashion. It’s a topic who’s time has come. Who is doing what and how are they doing it? We answer those questions and more.
We also look at the spring collections at fashion week this fall. Papierdoll has had a somewhat controversial past when it came to covering fashion weeks and this year looks to be no different. Our mantra when covering shows is “designers that matter. ” We’re not saying [insert major designer here] doesn’t matter, but if they are featured to death, who is covering the likes of rising stars like Yandkei and Dragana Ognjenovic? We are. And we will continue to do so in New York, Milan, Paris and London.
Enjoy this month’s issue and come back next month for an in-depth look at fashion week and much more.
