When I worked in retail, January was always the worst month. Working on commission meant that the first check in January included all those holiday returns. To make matters worse, everything was marked down so low you’d have to sell a ton of those green pumps to even it all out. It’s been awhile since that time. Now (at least to me) it seems as if January is perfect for shopping. The mark downs and hold-overs from the Christmas season mean getting a great deal on everything under the sun. Come mid-month though, you have the leftover winter wear (which you won’t wear anymore) and fresh spring wear that you won’t be able to pull out for some months. Should shopping be so complicated? Thank goodness for online stores!
February is definitely a lot better in terms of fashion, because we get to see all the fresh new trends for the fall during fashion week. New York Fashion Week starts on February 3rd and we are excited! This time around we were actually invited to A LOT of shows. Must mean we are legitimate in the eyes of the fashion elite here in New York.
Similar to our September coverage last year, we plan to blog every minute that we spend at the tents and other fashion events around the city. Joining me for the shows will be none other than your favorite Thriftychick and mine, Ali Manning.
This month naturally also brings the topic of “love,” we talk to Adrianna Kinal, the young designer of With Love From Paris, and she tells us all about her line. There is definitely an item or two to be picked up for Valentine’s day. Later in the month we talk to Elizabeth Adair, the jewelery designer featured twice on Papierdoll. She was the key jewelery designer used in the spring Joanne Mastroianni show.
On a final note, great things are happening at Papierdoll. Note the slinky new design. Finding your favorite feature won’t be an exercise in pain anymore. We also take the wraps off of our new site, LOOK. Look offers a variety of fashion photographs from very talented up-and-coming photographers.
Our new forums are waiting for you to login and talk you head off. February definitely trumps January at Papierdoll.
