Phoebe Philo, the design genius behind the feminine frocks, handbags and colors at Chloe, today will announce she is leaving the firm for personal reasons.
Industry watchers speculate that a feud was brewing for awhile based on rumors that Philo was growing increasingly frustrated with the work demands of the fashion house especially with her need to spend more time with her family and her newborn, Maya.
The company’s desire to expand the line into watches, lingerie, costume jewelry and baby apparel also exacerbated the issue for Philo as she had to deal with the new responsibilities and pressure.
To accomodate Philo’s need to be closer to her family, Chloe moved its design studio to London but that caused communications problems between headquarters and London. Philo signed a new Multi-year contract in 2005 but negotioations were ongoing to resolve the most recent dispute to no avail.
Rumor has it that Roland Mouret is among the names being speculated to take over the reins at Chloe. The Fall line is currently being designed by Philo’s design team -the same team that took over design duties when she went on maternity leave- , Sara Jowett, Natasha Lee, Valeska Duetsch, Adrian Appiolaza and Yvan Mispelaere.
