British designer Christopher Bailey, creative director at Burberry, has won the coveted Designer of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards 2005. Bailey has been credited with the rejuvenation of the Burberry brand. Other notable winners include Suzy Menkes, Roland Mouret who won the carpet designer and Karen Elson who won model of the year.
The British Fashion Awards is considered the “Oscars” of the British fashion industry. The rotating judging panel this year consisted of British Vogue editor-in-chief Alexander Shulman, Yasmin Sewell of Browns and Natalie Massenet of net-a-porter.com.
