The fashion industry generally looks at China in one of two ways: manufacturing center through low wage labor or manufacturing center through counterfeit goods.
A story in The New York Times today looks at a different China. This new fashion center is based on creative work. From fashion design sketches, to manufacturing, to educating designers on the wrongs of copying other’s designs, it is apparent that Chinese designers and manufacturers are seeking to break the old fashion stereotypes.
One of the designers the article focuses on is Li Yuqing, who states that, “When the clients send us designs, sometimes we’ll notice several possible improvements, and the biggest challenge is explaining them to the client.”
