I can remember going through a stage in which, for about a year during high school (way back when, before there were a plethora of designer jeans available, or at least before they became affordable to me) I refused to wear jeans. Why? Because I couldn’t find any that fit the way I wanted them to. Now, with a myriad of fits, lengths and styles, there is a pair of jeans for everyone. If I’d discovered The Rocker fit by Joe’s back then, I might have been persuaded to abandon my boycott.
The Rocker – [n: skinny flare] (34″ Inseam, 7″ Rise, 98% cotton, 2% lycra, 14″ in the knee, breaks to 18″) With a leg opening that’s long, lean and flared, this silhouette’s devastatingly sexy appeal captures the essence of rock and roll glamour.
So whether you’re a rock star or just dating one, this fit is fashion’s answer to authentic rock and roll style. It’s the perfect lounging-around-cum-night-on-the-town pair. Stretchy but not too tight, casually sexy and perfectly faded, The Rocker jeans feel like your favorite pair on the first wear: comfortable enough to spend a Sunday in but stylish enough to hit a club on a whim. In essence, the perfect jeans for anyone who, like me, likes to live it up without sacrificing comfort. Go ahead and be spontaneous; in these you’re dressed for anything. My only qualm is that they’re ridiculously long in their off-the-rack state (and I have pretty long legs), so if you’re not into cuffing, these might necessitate (and would be worth) pulling out the sewing machine. Another attribute: Joe’s pockets are, I think, my new favorite.

Last December, during the holiday shopping season, I was in Bloomingdales. While I was searching through racks of designer jeans, the sales girl says “You should try these; they fit so well, especially if you have curves like us.” “Us” being the sexily hippy (at least I think so). This was my first introduction to Joe’s jeans – the Honeys, to be exact. Needless to say, a few months later, when meeting with Adriana Joseph, Joe’s terrific PR rep, we were overwhelmed with excitement to see everything the brand had to offer.
My new favorite Joe’s – which I wear at least twice a week – The Muse [n: sophisticated fit](33.5″ Inseam, 8.5″ Rise, 98% cotton, 2% lycra, 16″ in the knee, breaks to 15″ at the leg opening) This jean has a fit that is damn near perfect, especially if you’re going out after work. They relax on you as the day wears on – imagine that, a pair of jeans that feel better throughout the day. The higher waist makes them fit more like a trouser and the finishing makes them look more even more so. I washed them a dozen times, no sign of fraying or lightening. The wash stays almost the same. The inseam is 33″ so they look great on women with long legs and they flatter almost any body type. These jeans are a definite, especially if you have a relaxed dress code (at least on Friday) at your office. They work great for almost any occasion.
The Joe’s Socialite is all the rage among – well – socialites. Young starlets and models such as Lindsay Lohan, Heidi Klum, and Nicole Richie have been seen around town on more then a dozen occasions strutting in their Socialites. And why not? The slim, classic fit with a boot cut make these the perfect party, dinner, whatever jean. I know from experience that when you wear the socialite, you will get noticed!!!
Let me put you on to the Honey’s [n: Booty fit] (33″ Inseam, 7.5″ Rise, 98% cotton, 2% Lycra denim, 14″ in the knee, breaks to 18″ at the leg opening). While socialite is great, it’s not the great when you have a little bit of curve to your bottom half. When it comes to the curvy rear, the Honey’s are the ones to get. The leg is a perfect boot cut, the lines are clean and crisp. Plus they shape your bottom perfectly. The Honey’s also have a celebrity following; Beyonce and Alicia Keys are fans. They were also featured on Oprah (and we all know Oprah knows best.) If it is true what they say – “Real women have curves,” then Joe’s has embraced it and made us a jean that works flawlessly in a socialite world.
It is really tough being a 5’2” jean lover in a 33″ inseam world. That is why Joe’s introduced the Provocateur [n: Petite Fit] (29″ Inseam, 7″ Rise, 100% cotton, 16″ in the knee breaks to 18″ at the leg opening) the answer to this dilemma. With a 29″ inseam, petite women don’t have to deal with the time consuming and often expensive tailoring and hemming. The Provocateur has all the details and styling of the other Joe’s jeans, just with a shorter inseam. Hair stylist to DC bigs, Nakisha Green (5’2″), who is obsessed with jeans, says “Although I like my jeans long, these are perfect. They look great with any height heel, and I can’t wait to wear them with boots!” She continues, “and so many people have stopped me on the street to ask where I got them from.”
Overall, Joe’s Jeans really knows what they are doing. The styling and attention to detail are all worth the sometimes hefty price. Realistically, Joe’s are not as high priced as some of their competitors, and they offer the same, if not better, details and extras (embroidery, crystals, cords, skirts, etc).
