Tommy Hilfiger is protesting reports that his new show, The Cut is some sort of ripoff of BravoTV’s Project Runway. Talking to the Associated Press, Hilfiger states that “Project Runway was about designing clothes…This isn’t just about designing clothes. This is about designing way beyond that.”
Indeed several of the contestants on the cut are not even fashion designers. One of the contestants is a restauranteur, another contestant is a former Miss Minnesota.
Drama ensues when backstabbing, idea stealing and all types of chicanery happen on the show.
The winner of The Cut series is looking at a prize of $250,000 and a fashion line under the Hilfiger label.
Meanwhile, Hilfiger’s clothing line business has come off of high times. In January, Hilfiger cut 200 jobs and moved all of his operations to one New York building, while forming an alliance with Karl Lagerfeld to prop up both brands.
The cut premieres this Thursday on CBS.
