Prioritize while you accessorize! This summer season it is very easy to get caught up in the “fabulousness” of a variety of accessories and shoes that can be classified as an essential. However, wearing everything at once only looks good on the runways. In the real world, we ladies must stick to a few essentials when it comes to accessorizing our wardrobe because the clothes can speak for themselves.
Through researching the “need” essentials, as opposed to the “want” essentials, of summer must-haves in accessories and shoes, I found several items that can get any fashionista through the heated summer months.
The sandal is always a huge summer staple for any wardrobe. This season the espadrille, the classic wedge and the Mediterranean-inspired flat sandals are making waves both on the beach and on the streets while giving a whole new meaning to the words “comfort chic.”
No longer are the days where women must channel their inner Ava Gardner in the “Barefoot Contessa” as a way to achieve comfort for the feet. Many colors, designs, fabrics and appliqués all contribute to the essential wedge and flat sandal. These are classic pieces that come around every so often for the summer season – making them essentials, not just trends. These sandals add flare to any outfit in your wardrobe, from swimsuits and tunics to frilly frocks.

Jewelry (think shells, beads, wood, etc.):
Jewelry this season, whether it is a long layered necklace or a multi-strand bracelet or bangle, gives homage to the easy breezy life of the islands and ethnic flavors (i.e. African, Middle Eastern, etc). With different materials such as wood, shell, beads and gold, one can’t help but be a bit indecisive when deciding which pieces to wear. Layered necklaces give in to the boho chic look that is so “in” right now. With this look you can layer long strands of
shells or beads, or smaller length strands for a Victorian choker look.

“Oh what is a girl to do when lugging around all these summer essentials?” Carry them in the essential carryall tote/hobo bag, which has taken on a new look and form. This essential accessory comes in a variety of fabrics – whether straw, leather, cotton canvas, snake skin, etc.
Here is a tip when carrying your tote/hobo and you need something a bit sleeker for after-work events: carry a clutch within your tote and switch to that for after-work parties or dinners.

Sunglasses this season are screaming “the bigger the better.” Think Jackie O. or Anna Wintour. There is no rule that says one must look less chic when protecting their eyes from the harmful UV rays. Plastic frames are really a must this season as opposed to
And last, but definitely not least, on my summer essentials list is the belt. Belts are used more for than just keeping the pants up this season. You can’t help but to see belts in all different textures, lengths and colors this summer to add that extra “oomph” to a look.
