Amid higher gas prices and lower sales, Wal-mart may be tweaking its strategy and going slightly upscale.
According to a report in Cincinatti Enquirer, Wal-Mart may begin featuring higher end merchandise a la’ Target.
While Target has “sharpened its appeal to a higher-income customer with affordable fashions and home merchandise from designers including Cynthia Rowley and Isaac Mizrahi”, Wal-Mart’s merchandise remain staid and stagnant.
Walmart is also looking to repair its damaged image as an unscrupulous employer. Their recent suits involving underage workers operating dangerous machinery and illegal immigrants on cleaning staff would be settled with an $11 million payment and employee training.
Wal-mart plans to feature “better quality and trendier merchandise.”
